Beginner Video Marketing Tips

Video Marketing

Videos are a great way to get traffic to your website—but how do they do this?

To help you out, we’ve put together a list of killer video marketing tips.

If you’re a small-to-medium sized business on a tight budget (looking for maximum exposure at minimal cost) our video marketing tips are just what Doctor Google ordered.

Most business owners know they need videos to promote their business. But they often upload them to their website and leave it at that.

This only helps you convert more visitors to clients if you already have people coming to your website. If you don’t, uploading a video to your website isn’t going to magically create new clients. If your website is buried somewhere on page 3 of Google’s search results, simply adding a video won’t take you to page 1 or bring you more traffic.

Why going viral is like winning the lottery

Everyone wants their video content to ‘go viral’ these days, don’t they? It costs nothing and requires minimal effort. It’s like magic.

Unfortunately, going viral is a bit like winning the lottery: it happens, but not to very many people. There are no proven formulas—no sure-fire way to get millions of views.

We can’t all be ‘Chewbacca mask lady’, but we can use videos to market our small business effectively.

So, why not focus on practical ways to improve your business’s visibility with proven marketing channels?

The real power of a video is unlocked when you post it on other sites. You can drive traffic to your website and encourage people to call you by using video SEO and marketing.

So how do you do this?

There are endless ways to use video in marketing.

  1. Use your video as a paid or free ad on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Twitter  and Tik Tok
  2. Optimise the video on YouTube so it ranks in YouTube and Google

There is now a video for pretty much anything you can think of. How about a baby monkey riding on a pig? Yep, that exists. It even comes with its own catchy-as-hell theme song. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

There are millions of videos on YouTube, but that doesn’t mean that anyone is actually watching them.

So how do you effectively use video marketing for your small business? Well it starts with thinking about the type of video

What sort of video do I need?

There are many different kinds of videos that can be used for marketing.

We can’t all be globally recognised brands like Apple or Greenpeace. These names, like famous people, require no introduction—but most small businesses, by comparison, are virtual unknowns.

Before someone will transition from a potential customer to an actual customer, they need to know that they can trust you.

So if you’re looking to make a marketing video for your small business, focus on things that build your:

  • reputation
  • trustworthiness
  • credibility.

For example:

  1. Review or Testimonial videos – these may be slideshows of images taken from review sites or real people talking about you.
  2. Story video – your personal story and or your business story (what sets you apart from the rest?)
  3. Promotional video – your products and/or services
  4. Live video – Share your thoughts or do a live training
  5. How to Videos – these are great on YouTube
  6. Product demonstrations or service case studies

Video Marketing Solutions

1. Review or Testimonial videos

Have you ever wanted to promote your 5-star reviews and testimonials to get more customers? Are you frustrated that, despite hundreds of satisfied customers, a negative or indifferent review of your business keeps popping up in Google searches or on social media?

Video marketing is a very powerful tool that can help you sculpt your business’s public perception and reputation. It allows you to have a say in what reviews people find when they search for you.

When people find positive reviews, they are more inclined to trust you, contact you, and hire you.

And, after all, who doesn’t want more customers?

Why online reviews of your business are vital

As a small or medium sized business, your online reputation and visibility are very important.

For many businesses, their online reviews can help determine whether they succeed or fail. Positive reviews drive customers to you, and negative reviews can turn customers away in droves.

By using video review videos, you can boost your online reputation to increase your customer base.

Why use online video marketing for your business?

People still value referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations to help them decide what business to choose for a certain product or service. But if they don’t have access to first-hand feedback, they’ll turn to Google.

Say, for example, someone has heard of your business name, but doesn’t know much else about you. A majority of these people will search Google for reviews of your business to:

  • make sure you are a legitimate and credible business
  • see what your customers are saying about you
  • see feedback on certain products or services.

How to control your business’s online reviews

Having no control over your online reviews can be frustrating, can’t it?

You may have hundreds, even thousands of satisfied customers who never felt the need to write an online review, but all it takes is one unhappy customer to take to social media to jeopardise your business’s reputation.

With video marking, you can take back some control of your online reviews. Having ‘control’ is not about trying to deceive anyone; it’s about promoting real reviews from actual customers and allowing you to shape the online narrative around your business or brand.

How to create it?

You can make a simple slideshow video in canva.com for free. Just take screenshots of your reviews online. Or if you have happy customers then ask them to do a quick video review next time you see them.

How to optimise so it ranks in YouTube and Google?

Just make sure your business name is in the video title with the word review or testimonial. If it is a person speaking then put their name in the title.

Social Media

Post the videos on all your social media accounts and use your business name and their names as hastags

Examples

As part of our clients ongoing SEO we create review videos for them. Provided they have at least 5 reviews.
See the playlist here to see how simple they are.

2. All the other videos

  1. Story video – your personal story and or your business story (what sets you apart from the rest?)
  2. Promotional video – your products and/or services
  3. Live video – Share your thoughts or do a live training
  4. How to Videos – these are great on YouTube
  5. Product demonstrations or service case studies

A story or live video helps people connect to you and your values and beliefs. With a promotional video, you can stake your claim as the number one business from your industry in your location. With How to Videos, product demos and case studies you show you know what you are talking about.

What to make a video about?

What are your key products or services that you want to be known for?

What are the areas of your business that you’d like to grow the most?

Do you have a brand new product or service that you think people are going to love that you want to promote?

Make videos about these to start with.

How to create it?

You can make a simple slideshow video in canva.com for free. Just take photos of your products and completed projects. Or if you don’t have photos then make a video that has written text on it explaining a product or service.

Someone can film you doing a simple product demonstration or at the site of your latest project talking about it.

The most difficult videos to make are promotional videos. As people expect them to be professional. So start with all the others 1st. The types of videos that do no need to be as professional. Then if you really need one then get consider getting one made.

How to Rank in Google and YouTube

It is vital to know what people search for in Google and Youtube so they can find your video.

So go to Google or YouTube and start typing in phrases till you see suggestions from Google and YouTube.

The critical thing is to put the best phrase in the title of the video.

Also, put all the other relevant phrases in the tags.

It’s relatively easy to rank a video in YouTube for a particular service and location—for example, ‘patio roofing Brisbane’.

The problem is that people don’t often search YouTube for businesses. When most people want to find a local business, they go straight to Google.

Imagine a video promoting your business ranking in Google for important keywords, and what impact this could have on your customer base. So make sure you put your location in the title as well.

Social Media

Post the videos on all your social media accounts and use your business name and important keywords as hastags.

Why business visibility is everything

When someone searches for your business in Google, being ‘found’ is not only important, it can be the difference between your business booming or diving.

If you run a small business and don’t have massive marketing and promotions budget (which, let’s face it, is most of us) your online visibility is everything.

And the simplest way to improve your online visibility is with a video that features positive customer reviews of your business. Either a slideshow video you can make in canva.com or a real person giving you a quick testimonial.

The other simple ways are to make slideshow videos of your products and services. Or a live video.

Streak ahead of the competition

Videos help you streak ahead of your competitors.

With exposure like this you’ll also gain more followers on social media and build your brand.

As a result, you’re likely to see more traffic and more customers for all of your products and services
